I’m Rob Monk, a Houston-based artist working primarily oils. With a degree in Fine Art, my practice is rooted in the expressive possibilities of gesture, mark-making, and abstraction.

Working within the tradition of Abstract Expressionism, I draw inspiration from the immediacy of gestural life drawing. Interested in capturing movement, change, and emotion through spontaneous, yet calculated marks, and intuitive compositions. I want to explore the space between observation and abstraction, allowing the figure to emerge, fade, and transform, layer after layer.

Living and working in Houston, I use painting and drawing as direct, physical forms of expression—where the process and inevitable change are as important as the 'finished' piece.
